Art in the Park
Calderstones Park
Reviewed by
A warm evening in Calderstones Park provided the perfect ambience for
the private view of the Creative LETS Summer Exhibition ‘Inspired’.
Within the cool interior of the gallery, guests enjoyed a collection
of paintings, photography, and mixed media, produced by eight of the network’s
members.
Work shown included Joan Evans’ photographs of found objects, which
are then enhanced using computer effects, providing a vibrant view of
natural materials.
Lis Edgar’s use of hand made recycled paper as a background to
work in pastels and plaster are environmentally friendly pieces containing
energy and colour.
The photographs of Michelle Burrows exploits the translucent qualities
of everyday objects, creating abstract images of great intensity.
The technical aspects of Colin Serjent’s photography provide a
firm foundation, which allows him to capture textures, bringing surfaces
into detailed relief.
Mick Green’s combination of poetry and artwork conveyed a personal
world view.
The nude life drawings of Sue Lucine, made with pastel and charcoal,
are stark in their simplicity and form.
Sue Milburn’s work engaged the viewer with uncluttered abstracted
horizons, drawing them into the paintings.
Overall this eclectic collection of art work was in keeping with the
endeavours of Creative LETS to bring to the forefront the work of local
artists.
Or as two visitors to the exhibition commented: “It was definitely
different and refreshing”, “The exhibition was thought provoking,
restful, but also disturbing.”
Creative LETS next exhibition ‘Stir Fry’ will be staged at
the Citadel Theatre in St. Helens, running from September to December
this year.
