Disability Election Debate
Monday 27th April 2015, 1pm - 3pm
Camp and Furness, 67 Greenland Street, L8
(ACE), the social enterprise that puts the people
it supports at the heart of everything it does, by public demand are organising
an election debate on Monday 27th April 2015, 1pm - 3pm, at Camp and Furness,
67 Greenland Street, L8. All the main candidates for the Riverside ward,
including the present Labour MP Louise Ellman will be answering questions
and giving their parties position on disability.
Disabled people, many campaigners argue, have been hardest hit by the
present coalition austerity measures and disabled organisations acknowledge
that the majority of disabled people are rarely engaged when it comes
to election time.
With austerity in mind and the question of ‘Who represents us?’
from their clients, ACE decided it was about time politicians considered
disabled people issues.
Steve Percival manager of ACE said ‘very few disabled people feel
engaged in politics, they see the world around them changing but don’t
always feel they can make a difference or challenge that change. I would
go as far as saying they often feel invisible when it comes to politics.
Many feel they have no voice, so then switch off. ACE believes politicians
should make that effort to engage with disabled people and disabled people
should be encouraged to ‘have their say’.
All disabled people, their carers and anyone else who has an interest
in the issues disabled people face are welcome to the event. But please
don’t come before 1pm unless you want to take part in our disability
Zumba.

All welcome. Don’t just moan, have your say at the Disability
Election Debate.
