Call for artists to register for the Independents Liverpool Biennial 2012

The deadline is approaching for artists who wish to register to be part of the Independents Liverpool Biennial 2012.

The Independents is one of the largest and most exciting contemporary visual arts festivals in the UK, with an exhibitions programme that runs in parallel with the Liverpool Biennial.

A non-curated, open-access event, the Independents showcases young blood and emerging new talent alongside established international artists. These artists often create new work specifically for the Independents Festival, which throws up unexpected and genuine surprises in extraordinary and often unusual venues.

Galleries, individual artists and art collectives looking to exhibit work in Merseyside during the Biennial dates of September 15 and November 25 are welcome to register and become part of the Independents.

This year, for the first time, artists unable to make it to the city but who still wish to take part can now use the Independents website as a virtual gallery to showcase their work year round.

Theresia Cadwallader, board member of the Independents Biennial and member of the Oxton Artists, said: “The Independents brings together hundreds of artists and venues from Liverpool and all over the world, and many well-known artists and established venues in the city are already registered.

“This year we are offering all artists the opportunity to upload information onto the Independents website themselves, and create virtual galleries to promote their exhibitions and work. We hope this will act as an added incentive to register and become part of a really exciting, collective festival.”

Edward Bruce, board member and co-director of the Bridewell Studios and Gallery, said: “As the fringe event of the biggest visual arts festival in the UK, the Independents is a chance for studios, artists groups and collectives and venues to play a part and get involved, as well as individual artists.”

The deadline for registration is July 27, to enable registered artists and exhibitions to feature in the Independents Biennial printed brochure.

The cost is £25 for artists, £150 for venues, and £100 for organisations.
