Ben Nevis Mountain trek for the victims in Kobani
Hundreds
of thousands of people have been displaced from their homes as a consequence
of the on-going struggle in Kobani. This has been organised to raise money for those victims who are
in desperate need of support. One of the participants, which takes place
in March 2015, gives some background to the situation and what the money
raised will be used for.
We are a group of individuals from all walks of life who have been affected
by what we have had to witness.
The harsh conditions facing the people of Kobani and Shengal as a result
of the on-going war in Syria have shook us. The mixed messages of the
international community in responding to the needs of the displaced peoples
have resulted in a deepening of their suffering. Little aid is being sent
to the victims who are now facing winter conditions in unsuitable tents.
What is definite is that, aid sent, if any, is not enough to keep those
people alive. Children are in need of food and clothes, babies are malnutritioned
and adults have lost all agency. These families need our help and their
voices need to be heard by the international community. They have nobody
to rely on, no government, no organization but us. We feel that it is
our duty as human beings to relieve the suffering of those innocent people
who have become victims in their own lands.
What we are seeking to achieve through our fundraiser is more than merely
acting as a form of charity. We believe that no human should ever have
to go through the torment of physical pains of war and hunger. We believe
that we can help every single family, every single child, every single
mother and father get through this winter. Everyone reading this message
is fortunate and should act in agency on behalf of those whose voices
are silenced. We are aware that nothing will change overnight and that
the wounds of this war will take time to heal.
We
know that you hear these cries for help every day. We know that you receive
that request every time you access your social-media. We know. We feel
you. And we know you feel “helpless”. But please, we urge
you all to give. Give because if you give, we can achieve this pledge.
We can help every single family, every single child, every single mother
and father get through this winter.
You are what you share so share your riches with those in desperate need.
And remember, you cannot remain a witness forever.
Sponsor our trek up the highest mountain in the British Isles to show
solidarity and support. Your contributions do matter. You matter. We all
matter for the existence of one another.
