Quaker Veggie Cafe open for business!Liverpool Quakers and Blackburne House are committed to equality and to building community. That's why the opportunity to open a new venue in the centre of Liverpool was too hard to resist. Paula Gamester of Blackburne House said; "we wanted to offer somewhere which is fresh and new, our food will reflect our values with an emphasis on freshness, local sourcing and fair trade." The vegetarian cafe will offer a broad menu with an emphasis on fresh and seasonal with Pam our pastry chef making cakes and pastries daily. All profits generated by the cafe will support the charitable aims of the organisations, such as providing bursaries for women to access training and developing work around concerns for poverty and sustainability. Lisa Hoyle of Liverpool Quakers said, "The cafe perfectly complements our aim to open up the whole of the ground floor of our beautiful building on School Lane. We already operate an information exchange and a quiet room (for people of all faiths and none.). We welcome community groups who want to use the foyer to meet and hope that over time our building will act as a hub for building community in Liverpool" The cafe also offers an opportunity for artists to exhibit. John Davies exhibition "From Green to Brown" one of the Biennial Independents. John's work documents the public use of Sefton Park Meadows and the exhibition is split between the Meeting House Cafe, Baltic Creative and the Old Police Station, Lark Lane. The message to all our customers is we will be providing delicious food to eat in or take away - and as well as that you will be contributing to building equality and providing opportunities for people. Sharon Connor of North West Community Services agrees; "having worked with Liverpool Quakers for some time we are looking forward to the volunteering opportunities that will be available to our clients when the cafe is fully operational." Cafe is open Monday to Friday 9am - 3pm, Saturday 9am - 5pm. Meeting House Cafe For menu and details of opening events: http://meetinghousecafe.co.uk
