Afghan
Embroidery
Details from a large (3.5x1.2 metres) embroidered work in silk. It’s
from a project entitled ‘Success to the Afghans, Success to the
Danes’. A collaborative piece done through Bluecoat Connect, working
with a group of young Afghan refugees. The subject comes from a book –
an inventory – of Danish migrant workers in Liverpool around 1910-1920.
The book, found in a skip, contains photographs and names of people registered
here. The banner was shown in the Central Library’s Picton Reading
Room, and now hangs in St Anne’s Church in Overbury Street.
