Artist Profile - Emily Coombes

I am inspired by nature and the seasons around me - particularly colours and shapes. I collect, dry and press my own natural plant material for use in my work, mainly petals, leaves and grasses. I use these to inspire me for the background or landscape.

As consumers we are constantly surrounded by images of nature - desktop screens, wallpaper, prints, fabrics - encouraging us to bring the 'outside' in. But why stop at that? I take that natural step further by using the plant material itself in my work, as opposed to merely 'recreating' or 'representing' it.
As well as my canvasses, each one of my hand-made cards is unique and contains a pressed flower or leaf.
