Back to index of Nerve 19 - Winter 2011 Artist Profile - Eimear KavanaghMy work is heavily influenced by Indian and Asian culture. Allured by the rich colours and abundance of decorative patterns adorned by the people and homes there, it is this which I like to capture in my paintings. I make contemporary designs which draw upon indigenous Indian themes, my work often depicting symbolic imagery taken from Hindu myth and religious iconography. Indian designs and techniques have normally been taught and passed down through families for generations. These very aesthetic elements are in my paintings. Since gaining a BA Honours in Textiles I have worked with a range of mixed media, from jewellery design to recycled art, illustration to CD album cover design. Recent commissions have taken me back to India, painting traditional murals with a local craftsman, and completing a private collection for a home owner in Australia. Website: eimears.co.uk |
