Artist Profile - Katherine McCall

My name is Katherine McCall and I am twenty-two. I've been taking photos since I was about ten. I have a learning disability and I have found that this gives me a different eye on the world compared with people who don't. I am currently studying Horticulture at Deeside College, North Wales, and also work at Tam o' Shanter Urban Farm in Bidston. I live in West Kirby.

Photography is one of my many interests. Because I see the world in a slightly different way I try to make people aware that there are many possible ways of looking at things. Many of my photos are of local scenes, but I try to make them look fresh, so people see them in a new way. I have had my photographs accepted for the Wirral Spring Exhibition at the Williamson Art Gallery, Birkenhead, for several years, and have also exhibited in many other places.

I sell my work regularly and keep my prices affordable, as I like my work to be seen. As well as prints, I also produce a calendar of my work.

I sing with a group called Green Blade, performing traditional and contemporary folk songs and also acting in mumming plays. We perform both indoors and outdoors, in libraries, and at community, peace and green events. I also sing with Liverpool Socialist Singers, on demonstrations and at other events.
