Whatever happened to the Podium?

Does anyone remember the Podium near the top of Church Street? It suddenly disappeared about 10 years ago without a word.
It was a precious public space, a round raised disc equipped with power sockets, and it was easily booked.
We celebrated several May Days and Workers' Memorial Days there.
In various gigs we had local bands, Capoeira dancers, face painting, acoustic guitarists and singer/songwriters performing, plus speakers against the wars on Afghanistan and Iraq.
Many groups enjoyed freedom of expression there.
