Profile - Dave Grimbleby
By
Dave - who won our Issue 5 - believes his work is inspired by themes of nature,
ecology and the seemingly random factors that conjoin to make either ecological
threats or beautiful fractal patterns and textures.
His recent work is also influenced by traditional landscapes that capture
an elemental 'spirit of place'.
Mixed techniques are used in his paintings and assemblages in oils, acrylics,
collage and found natural objects.
"Threats from global warming, loss of habitat and species, together
with pollution," said Dave, "are all alarming as they strike
at the very ground of our being."
He uses landscapes to reflect these threats and to make vows of offerings
to the spirits of nature.
Dave has exhibited extensively since 1971 in numerous one-man and group
shows nationally, including at the Hayward Art Gallery, Mall Galleries
and the Royal Academy in London, as well as in Europe.
