An update on the Workers Theatre Movement Project
A great turn out for our scripts reading on Tuesday at the Arts bar. Enjoyable evening had by all. Thanks to readers, writers and audience. Think actors and writers are a bit clearer now on what we’re looking for, for the 3 Living Newspapers we’re aiming at for the June Hope Street Theatre show.
Writers, we’ll be looking at the scripts quite soon, so if you’ve got an idea, don’t wait too long to put it to paper. We’ve had a good flurry of scripts just recently. Send to info@valleytheatre.co.uk
Events coming up:
1. Beginning of Workshops
Monday 3rd March 7pm at Valley
Our workshops begin, highlighting the techniques used by The Workers Theatre Movement and seeing if they can be adapted to modern times and worked into the second of our Living Newspapers.
At the same time, we will be continuing rehearsals for the Leverhulme festival Living Newspaper (“Next Edition”) to be performed April 22nd.
2. “Unity” – play-reading (prior to audition and casting at a later date)
Wednesday 5th March, Arts Bar, Hope Street (Studio 1), 7pm – 9pm
Below is the reading and audition call out blurb we’re putting out on social media for the play we’ll be doing at Hope Street Theatre alongside the Living Newspapers. Be great to see some of you along there at the Arts Bar.
“Unity” – To be performed at Hope Street Theatre in June.
A rough and ready hall in a Northern Town. A 1930s Left Theatre Group rehearse their latest agitprop play. But tensions within the group, personal and political, are soon apparent, showing once again how hard Unity is to achieve.
This hour long play by Tom Mclennan will be performed at The Hope Street Theatre, June 6th – 8th, as part of the Workers Theatre Movement Project.
To allow actors interested in auditioning for the parts a chance to hear it, we will be having a reading on the above date (Wed March 5th7pm, Arts Bar Hope street, Liverpool, Studio 1) No Fee unfortunately but unavoidable expenses and a good acting opportunity. May be taken to other venues if successful.
Also very welcome, those interested in being an audience, who might want to provide feedback. More details info@valleytheatre.co.uk
Characters
Sam – Working class, unemployed, aspiring, relatively new to the revolutionary theatre groups. 30-40
Alex – Ex bank manager, lower middle-class, good actor, coming through am dram ranks 50-70
Betty – Working class, 30ish, also from am dram, but with socialist leanings

This is not a film. The production team are looking for acting talent first before strict adherence to character descriptions eg age, accents.. in the belief that you get a bit more leeway on stage than on screen.
Cheers, everyone and thanks for your continued support.
