AGE HAS
NO BOUNDARIES?
It is important that we have some reference points for opposition that
people can turn to as the cuts start to bite. We like to think that Nerve
is viewed as one of these.
This issue’s theme is age and the cuts. We have articles on home
schooling, children’s telly and Sure Start - which is particularly
apt as provision is wound down and Cameron proposes forcing the parents
of three year olds into the labour market. We cover ‘Workfare’,
looking at the exploitation of workers by companies making a packet. We
need to combine the struggle of those being forced on to these schemes
with that of protestors and union members if our resistance to the abuses
of the Condem government is going to be successful and effective for everybody.
Over the coming months we have plans to increase our involvement in communities
through:
Nerve Radio which will have news programmes
and reports, features, art, music and discussions. All this on-line and
keeping up-to-date with events.
will be moving around Merseyside, bringing art and cultural
activities into the community. Initially these will focus on the libraries
with the aim of highlighting these vital resources.
To paraphrase Emma Goldman: “If I can’t dance then it’s
not my revolution”. Nerve always supports local arts and music and
connects it with social action. With Liverpool City Council’s new
policy to curtail street performance or busking of any kind, even creative
spontaneity on our streets is being crushed.
The next issue of Nerve will be a 2013 Calendar. We are putting the call
out now for art and photographs. You know by now the sort of stuff we
want: images that inspire, images of struggle and resistance.
